Inspired by the works of Moliére, Marivaux, and Beaumarchais, The Lovers’ Ruse is an homage to the 17th and 18th century French comedies of the stage. Set in mid-18th century Italy, the plot revolves around — what else? — amore, but as a result of their amorous pursuits, the romance minded characters entangle themselves in an increasingly complicated Gordian knot of love.
Machinations and misunderstandings abound, amid wit, verve, and a break-neck pace. Who, if anyone, will win in this comedic game of love?
